This Code of Ethics applies to every journalist, editor, and contributor at Keertiman. It sets out how we protect our independence and avoid conflicts of interest — see our Editorial Policy for our content standards.
Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions are made on journalistic merit alone — never because of an advertiser, political party, government pressure, or personal relationship. Our sales and editorial teams operate entirely separately.
Conflicts of Interest
- Journalists do not report on subjects in which they hold a direct financial interest (shares, ownership, employment).
- Accepting gifts, travel, or hospitality from a source, company, or political entity is prohibited, except nominal/promotional items.
- Where a journalist has a personal or family connection to a subject, they disclose it to their editor and step back from the assignment where warranted.
- Coverage in exchange for payment ("paid news") is strictly prohibited.
Source Protection
We never reveal the identity of a confidential source, regardless of legal or other pressure, unless the source themselves consents. Anonymous sources are used only when the information is in the public interest and can be independently verified.
Originality and Plagiarism
We do not present another publication's work as our own. When another source's reporting is used, it is clearly attributed.
Social Media Conduct
Journalists refrain from expressing personal opinions on their own social media that would call into question the impartiality of their reporting, particularly on political subjects.
